Discover the true meaning of “getting away from it all” staying in our garden apartment situated on the historic Braes at the heart of the Isle of Skye. With breathtaking sea views over the Sound of Raasay, Braes Retreat provides the ideal base to explore the island.
Centrally located on the island, Braes Retreat is found in the quiet and peaceful crofting community of Peinachorran, at the end of a no through road on the picturesque east coast of the island, 8 miles south of Portree. It is here in Braes in 1882 that faced with eviction the crofters rebelled against the landowners in the Battle of Braes.
With a backdrop of the Cuillin Mountains, the property is set within a glorious garden, which has previously featured on television due to the variety of plants and serene calm created by the burn running through it.
Braes Retreat is perfect for either a couple, or two friends, as the bedroom can be set up as a double or twin room.
The garden and surrounding area are a haven for much of the indigenous wildlife that Skye has to offer. Birdlife abounds in the garden and seals, otters, sea eagles, deer, dolphins and whales can all be spotted just a stroll from the front door.
We offer self-catering on the Isle of Skye with a warm and personal touch. Staying in Braes Retreat, your most difficult decision will be whether to spend the day around the apartment, enjoying our enchanting garden, watching and listening to the birds at play, or to explore this beguiling island from your central location.
