HOW TO FIND BRAES RETREAT

We recommend guests have their own transport whilst staying at Braes Retreat. Therefore the following are directions for arrival by car:

  • On arrival on the Isle of Skye head for Portree on the A87.
  • Approximately 2 miles before you reach Portree, take the right-hand turning sign-posted ‘Am Bràighe, Braes, B883’. Please note this turning is on quite a sharp left-hand bend in the main road.
  • After half a mile turn right at the T-junction and then travel down this road for approximately 4½ miles.
  • Turn left at the road signposted “Gedintailor, Balmeanach and Peinachorran” and continue along this road, entering Peinachorran after 1 mile.
  • Continue along the road. It bends sharply up to the right and then, on the left just inside our wooden fence is a red sign board with ‘Glamiag Cottage and Braes Retreat’ written on it. The wooden gate on the corner next to the sign is the entrance to Glamaig Cottage and Braes Retreat.
  • Either park on the driveway in front of the garage or on the road side opposite.

From the mainland, Skye can be reached over the Skye Bridge at Kyle or via the Mallaig-Armadale ferry. If crossing at Mallaig, it’s best to book in advance (Calmac Ferries). Please note guests have occasionally found themselves stranded at Mallaig after the last ferry when following SatNav! Another scenic alternative is the Glenelg-Kylerhea ferry.

Postcode for SatNav is IV51 9LL. The journey is 3 hours from Inverness. Allow 5 hours for journeys from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

There is limited public transport and it would also be possible to arrive by bicycle. Please contact us if you require further information.

PEINACHORRAN

Braes Retreat is easily found. Located in Peinachorran at the end of the historic Braes road (Google Maps)

OVER THE SEA TO SKYE

The Isle of Skye has a bridge connecting it to the mainland but if you desire, take the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale on the far south of the island (Calmac Ferries).
